The beach and ocean of Level 100.
Level 100 is the 101st level of the Backrooms. Information on this level is limited due to only having been explored once.
Description:
Level 100 is comprised of a straight path of sand surrounding by an infinitely expanding ocean. The sand looks smooth, the path itself going on for an unknown amount of time. From the singular explorer that traveled here, however, the sand trail doesn't seem to have an end or start point. While going along this trail, one can occasionally encounter random objects. These objects will usually be personal effects like cell-phones, photos, articles of clothing and other small items that would be carried by an individual.
From the only expedition into this level to date, it seems that going farther down the beach trail will reveal the occasional gravestone. Engraved on each one is a rudimentary drawing of a face; the explorer reported they were depicted with a peaceful expression. Alongside the faces, all the headstones have dates on them, theorized to be the date of death; although, since the faces are unidentifiable as of now, it is hard to say if these match up with real people at all.
Both sides of the ocean of Level 100 are, supposedly, infinite, as even after swimming for ~5 minutes, the explorer stated the horizon never changed. After taking some time to recuperate, the explorer decided to dive below the surface of the water. The ocean floor was mostly featureless, nothing but near completely flat sand, which seemed to be spread in a thin layer over a rocky surface.
The Shadow:
"The Shadow" is an entity that seems to only be visible in one's peripheral vision. Although sightings of this entity have been reported on the levels below, its prevalence in Level 100 and no sightings on levels above seems to suggest a deeper connection between the two. Although it was initially believed to be completely invisible, new research has demonstrated the entity has extremely sophisticated camouflage, able to accurately mask itself according to the environment it finds itself in to the point where only its shadow is visible.
Colonies and Outposts:
There are no known colonies or outposts on this level.
M.E.G. Interview Log 8872:
Date: 31/08/2018
Interviewer: Alex Patr
Interviewee: Holly Clove
Patr: So, could you explain what happened, Miss Clove?
Clove: Well, I was in Eleven … I was just going around on my own. Everything seemed fine 'til I heard some chatter down the road. I was curious, 'cause I thought it mighta been some of you guys. But it turned out to … well, it wasn't anyone M.E.G. They started chasing me, for whatever reason, and I started to run. I didn't want to enter any of the building 'cause—
Patr: Not to be rude, but could you hurry up? We're much more interested in your discovery.
Clove: … Right, well, after being chased for a while I … decided I could just play dead. In hindsight … it was a terrible plan. But I thought it'd be worth a shot. I got out of sight for only a few seconds, and used that chance to lay sprawled out on my stomach. There were some faceless nearby, too, so I hoped they'd scare the guys chasing me off!
*Patr**: And then what?
Clove: They just left, but I was worried they were trying to trick me. Did seem like too much of an easy win. After a while, I felt something pick me up. Before I had a chance to react I was stood on a thin strip of sand … There was water on either side, and it was all very bright, and warm … tropical. I didn't see what took me, but I think it was some shadow creature? maybe?
Patr: Did you find anything there?
Clove: Mhm. As I walked there were some random items on the beach. I didn't pick them up, but there were pictures of people, phones, little pieces of cloth, and some other stuff like lighters. Just … stuff people would carry, y'know?
Patr: Was that it?
Clove: There were also some headstones the further I went. They didn't have names, only faces and dates. It was weird. I didn't touch anything.
Patr: You mentioned a "thin strip of sand." Was that the only bit of land?
Clove: No, just water. I went for a swim, and must've gotten at least … twenty meters from shore. I saw no change in the horizon. It was just ocean, forever. I took some time to get my energy back, and then dived down. The seabed just went down forever, and there was rock below the sand. You could see everything under there, too! The water's so blue up top, but very clear once you're in it.
Patr: How'd you get out?
Clove: Well, that was all I really did, besides take that photo I showed your team. I just kept on walking. I must've spent at least an hour or two just walking … by that point I was quite thirsty, thanks to the heat. So when I found a bottle, I instantly went for it, only to be grabbed from behind and … 'taken' to Level 0.
Patr: Anything else, Miss?
Clove: Uh … Nope, that's all. Thank you
Patr: Well, thank you, Miss Clove. That's all for now.
Entrances and Exits:
Entrances
A consistent method of access is, as of now, unknown, since any attempts to recreate the original way inside have proved fruitless. Nevertheless, the only confirmed way to get here is to play dead on Level 11, which spontaneously transported the explorer to Level 100
Exits
The explorer reported being transported to Level 0 after interacting with one of the items found littering the sand.
