Level 31 is the 32nd level of the Backrooms. Discovered by u/Bart0nius, Level 31 is a set of 27 different rooms of the same size, like a sort of Rubik’s cube. There’s 9 rooms in a 3x3 shape on three different sets of “floors.” Each room is different, and are entirely random on what could be inside. Several Rubik’s cubes are mounted in carious locations inside of these rooms, and act as a sort of vague map of the level. The level will noticeably shift on occasion, one room that you entered from would likely be a different room were you to try to re-enter.
Description:
As stated above, the level is a set of 27 ever changing rooms that resemble the model of a Rubik’s cube; and the rooms shift like one as well. As to what resides in these rooms, it is believed to be completely random; and constantly changing.
The Level is almost devoid of any life, the only entity being a blind humanoid monstrosity that u/Bart0nius refers to by the name Echo. The super-entity is blind, but navigates by using a sort of echolocation, hence the name. Any sound that occurs on Level 31 will most definitely be heard and met by the entity; when it hears something loud it will come racing into the room at inhuman speeds, and violently thrash and tear at the sound’s location.
Entrances and Exits:
There is a small chance one can enter from Level 8. The only known exit leads to either Level 11 or Level 33.
Addendum:
The following is a transcript of a Reddit log submitted by u/Bart0nius:
Finally.
Two months in the endless, massive, awful labyrinth that is Level 8.
Constant hopelessness. Suffering. Misery.
Spiders and abominations behind every corner.
I thought I’d never get out.
But… look at me now.
Somewhere worse.
So, Level 8 was miserable. So miserable, in fact, that when i found the stairs, i ran down them without a second thought. I left a note to my team explaining that any longer in this place would drive me nuts. I’m sort of alone at the moment.
The stairs ended at a giant abyss of swirling, gray mist. I worried about jumping, but desperation won me over, and down I went. My idiocy was rewarded by me landing in Level 31.
Now, as for this level itself, I’ve discovered that it’s sort of a large, 27 cube Rubix cube, in the sense that all the square, identical rooms are stacked in a 3 x 3 x 3 shape. They shift whenever I move this cube I found on the wall, so I currently have control over it, which is pretty neat.
The issue is the Hunter. The Hunter is this giant, four legged monstrosity that is the culmination of everything awful, or maybe I’m just used to not seeing it. It can’t see, but it’s very good at smelling and hearing. It moves slowly, room to room, and on the cube, the room it’s in is black, and the ones adjacent are dark gray. the rooms adjacent to those are light gray, and the opposite one is white. By this logic, you should stay in the light.
Except there’s messages in the dark gray parts.
Morse code, usually. Poems, always. Seemingly written by the Hunter itself. The way it writes is arrogant, not as intelligent as the Thing on Level 7, but still dangerous. It’s much more sure of its ability to tear me apart. For this reason, it’s safe to say I’m going to stay away from it.
I’ll keep you updated whenever I have a moment. Stay safe, everybody.
