Level 315 is the 316th positive level of the Backrooms.

Description

Level 315 is an enormous, dimly lit environment of unknown dimensions, though prevailing theories suggest the space is endless. The level is entirely enclosed within a low-visibility fog, making orientation and navigation extremely difficult. The most prominent structural feature of this level is the uniform distribution of concrete columns, spaced precisely 5 meters apart in every direction. Each pillar appears to extend endlessly upward into the fog, and no ceiling is ever visually confirmed, regardless of technological enhancement or visual aid.

The atmosphere in Level 315 is breathable, but measured readings indicate a slight deviation from Earth’s normal composition. The gaseous breakdown is as follows: 75.2% nitrogen, 20.7% oxygen, 2.8% carbon dioxide, 0.9% argon, and trace elements of methane and sulfur dioxide. Humidity is high, consistently recorded at 91.3%, creating a damp chill. Average ambient temperature is 16.4°C (61.5°F), though colder drafts may be felt when passing through gaps between certain pillars.

A photograph of “The End”.

“The End” of Level 315 refers not to a literal exit, but rather to the massive concrete walls that encapsulate the known borders of the space. These walls are smooth, impenetrable to manual tools, and composed of ultra-dense concrete imbued with a high concentration of unknown silica-based compounds. Controlled demolitions have managed to crack open a small segment of this structure, revealing yet more empty space beyond, visually indistinguishable from the rest of Level 315. The purpose or origin of these barriers remains unresolved.

“The Ceiling”, as named by Base Europa personnel, is a theoretical vertical limit where pillar ascents become impossible. Using winches, drone lifts, and grappling equipment, some groups have reached approximately 1.4 km upward before equipment failure or loss of visibility halted progress. There is speculation among researchers that breaching The Ceiling could lead to Level N/A, though this remains unconfirmed due to extreme altitude risk and lack of viable return data.

Entities

Facelings are the most commonly encountered entities within Level 315. They appear singly or in pairs and may stand motionless between columns for extended periods. While some exhibit docile behavior, others have been reported to become hostile without clear provocation. Hostile variants will pursue wanderers, though their movement appears inhibited by the level’s dense fog and damp floor surface. Eye contact or sudden noises are believed to trigger aggressive responses.

Deathmoths are also present, most often the female variant due to their increased size and aggression. Though less commonly seen than in other levels, Deathmoths here appear to suffer from diminished visual acuity, possibly due to the persistent fog or chemical composition of the air. Most sightings involve Deathmoths hovering idly in large open corridors or disappearing into mist before engagement. If one is spotted at a distance, remaining silent and retreating in the opposite direction is strongly advised. Male Deathmoths are less aggressive but still pose a threat if disturbed.

Hounds are present but rarely seen, with wanderers occasionally spotting them prowling far-off spaces. The open terrain gives humans a moderate chance of outrunning them if spotted. Beyond the half-square-mile mark from an entry point, sightings of Clumps increase. Unlike Clumps in many other levels, these instances are typically passive unless attacked or provoked. They exhibit curiosity but not hostility. Rare Skin-Stealer encounters have also been recorded.

Colonies and Outposts

A small number of wanderers have chosen to establish a presence within Level 315. The difficulty of resource replenishment and the low visibility make permanent habitation highly impractical, but some groups have succeeded.

Base Europa

Base Europa is the only known permanent outpost within Level 315 and is home to a group of 22 wanderers. Their base is uniquely constructed around and atop one of the tallest accessible pillars, roughly 10 meters in diameter. Over time, they have scavenged and repurposed scattered items found throughout the level—beds, shelves, metallic frames, and wooden panels—into a crude but functional multilevel tower-like structure strapped to the central pillar. The base includes sleeping quarters, a lookout point, and a small radio station used to scan for communication frequencies.

Governance within Base Europa is communal, with all decisions made through majority vote. Supplies are replenished via coordinated excursions into neighboring levels. The group is friendly to outsiders and open to trade, provided they are not perceived as a threat. Their flag (pictured), prominently displayed from the topmost section of the pillar, consists of a light blue field and a white Nordic cross, with a central symbol resembling an equals sign over a U-shape rendered in black and tilted sideways. This emblem is often used as a navigational landmark for lost wanderers.

Assorted Camps

Other camps have been found throughout Level 315, though most are either abandoned or temporary. These nomadic shelters often consist of bedframes, old tents, or signs carved into concrete indicating past human presence. The majority are assumed to have been erected by wanderers en route to other levels or those attempting to map the space.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

One can access Level 315 through Level 4 by finding a heavily misted maintenance corridor lined with cracked concrete—entering this passage and walking for approximately five minutes results in a sudden shift into Level 315. Alternatively, a malfunctioning elevator shaft in Level 21 may sporadically open into Level 315 if the elevator is called during a power fluctuation, depositing wanderers directly at the base of one of the concrete pillars.

Exits

The most reliable method of exiting Level 315 is by no-clipping through one of its primary structural elements. No-clipping into the base of a pillar has a randomized but documented chance of transporting a wanderer to Level 4, Level 11, Level 21, Level 160, or Level 998, among other unconfirmed levels. No-clipping through the damp concrete floor carries a significantly higher risk but has consistently led to Level 0. There are likely additional exit routes within Level 315, though their locations and triggers remain undocumented due to the level's immense scale and the unpredictable nature of no-clip transitions.
