- {$three}
Level 317 is the 318th positive level of the Backrooms. It was discovered on September 13, 2001, after several wanderers on Level 300 had a feast of violet leaves.
Description
Level 317 consists of four regions (and one hidden region), known as wonderlands, which are followed by each other in numerical order, each varying strongly on certain areas or topics, such as layout, properties, and safety. The level's wonderlands appear to be super-sized versions of pre-existing spaces from the Frontrooms. Level 317's wonderlands are as follows:
The Rubber Plains
A rare photograph of The Rubber Plains during daytime.
The Rubber Plains are the first wonderland of Level 317. It is where a majority of wanderers initially enter. It appears as an expansive, unending landscape of various hills, consisting of black rubber. The slopes of the Rubber Plains contain various patterns, such as a pink and green top and white circles. Small, colorful rocks of oval shape are frequently encountered across the landscape. The Rubber Plains seem to be surrouded by unreachable, collosal trees, which, as much as one attempts to reach them, the further they appear from one's perspective. The Rubber Plains seem to be constantly at night; very rarely, the wonderland may experience daytime. The landscape becomes exceedingly hot when it is daytime. At night, The Rubber Plains' temperature reaches 18° Celsius (64,4° Fahrenheit.). The Rubber Plains' sky has a myriad of clouds, which cover 67% of the sky. The sky itself appears as a dark purple-colored sky. The Rubber Plains' layout seems to replicate itself every 1,007 miles (1620,609 kilometers.); however, similarly to Level 0, the layout is modified and distorted when no one is nearby. Plant life may be encountered across the Rubber Plains, growing on small rifts in the ground. Some of the most noticeable plants present at this level are sunflowers and ferns. The main threats within the Rubber Plains are environmental hazards. The most known, frequent, and common environmental hazards are floods, heavy storms, extreme winters and summers, lightning, meteor showers, and droughts.
The rifts on the ground, which were aforementioned, generally have thirty centimeters (11,811 inches.) in length. One can see dirt ground from these rifts; due to this, a high quantity of wanderers believe that an enormous layer of dirt is situated directly below the landscape's layer of rubber. These rifts are likely formed in three different ways: they may be formed by tectonic activity, as the Rubber Plains contain multiple minuscule tectonic plates; they may be formed by human activity, such as mining or digging; or they may be formed by the plants themselves, which, while growing, begin causing the rifts. The plants are accidentally cultivated when seeds are left on the ground, which, if already damaged, may make the task of digging and wearing out through the ground difficult. The seed is then buried in the dirt by the strong winds of the wonderland, and the seed is watered by the heavy rain within the Rubber Plains. The fully grown plants are forced to evolve and adapt to the landscape. The plants evolved a method to liberate more seeds on the rift, which causes rifts created as a consequence of the plants growing to be expanded more and more as time passes.
One of the craters present within the Rubber Plains. The picture was taken by the same photographer and day of the previous.
Along the hills of the Rubber Plains, one may encounter large craters spread across the region. These craters completely expose the layer of dirt below the rubber. These cavities may or may not be connected by undeground, expansive tunnels; these tunnels are asymmetric and seem poorly carved in several areas. These cavities have enormous plants, which reach twenty meters (65,6168 feet). These plants rapidly spread around the craters, specifically their boundaries and corners. Inside these craters, one can also encounter human-sized pieces of trash, such as metal and plastic bottle caps, pieces of paper and candy wrap, and plastic bottles, among others. Natural items may also be encountered, such as small rocks, leaves, rotten and good fruit, and pieces of wood, among others. Strange, slighyly cracked, irregular sticks are frequently sighted, seemingly forced into the crater's boundaries. One may use these sticks to climb out of the craters. The craters vary significantly in all characteristics. These craters, despite being referred to as craters, are not caused by asteroids and meteors and are instead fully natural. A myriad of wanderers commonly and frequently used to traverse around the landscape. A myriad of wanderers have established outposts all across the craters of the Rubber Plains, with these outposts being some of the largest outposts on the level. These outposts have an economy, laws, military, and religions. Inside of these craters, one may encounter a wooden shack, which, on entrance, will lead them to the second wonderland.
The Woodlands
The Woodlands are the second wonderland of this level. The Woodlands appear as a collection of a myriad of super-sized, segmented rooms constructed entirely of wood with abnormal and irregular flooring, frequently described as relatively small-sized slopes across the floor. Sometimes, the walls of the rooms may be built of white concrete. Giant furniture of more than 30 meters (98,4252 feet) is commonly encountered throughout the Woodlands. These pieces of furniture commonly seem to contain items situated on their surfaces, such as plates, cutlery, cups, and food, among others. Large fluorescent lamps can be seen suspended on the ceiling. The fluorescent lights of these lamps are thought to contain therapeutic and behavioral properties, which cause the majority of the wanderers to become happier, calmer, and generally feel a sense of seclusion and tranquility. The Woodlands are entirely devoid of environmental hazards, and only a minimal quantity of entities inhabit the Woodlands. Crates with resources are commonly encountered throughout the Woodlands; these resources seem to perpetually last, and expiration dates are unexistent. A thick fog may periodically appear and envelope the wonderland; this fog, named "Woodsmoke," causes breathing issues, eye pain, and a terrible smell. If one encounters a window on this wonderland, they will gain the wish to jump through it, and doing the said task will cause one to be teleported to the third wonderland.
The Greenrooms
The Greenrooms are the third wonderland. The Greenrooms appear as a labyrinth of green, segmented rooms constructed of concrete. The Greenrooms are enveloped in darkness, with very dim light sources. The Greenrooms' walls may suddenly disappear or become larger, taller, wider, thinner, or smaller. Within the Greenrooms, one may randomly encounter statues of what is presumed to be humanoid entities, such as the Armless and Homo Callidus; these statues may also be of humans. These statues are thought to cause disturbing and uneasiness and will make the one pondering them highly uncomfortable. These statues are randomly placed around the wonderland in aleatory positions that seem human, such as pointing, falling down, jumping jacks, flexing, and clapping, among others. A smoke covers the Greenrooms, this smoke poisons wanderers after several weeks. The walls of the Greenrooms may rapidly and suddenly close up on wanderers periodically, slipping through the ground and producing a sound that discommodes wanderers. The walls, floors, and ceilings are going to close and move around quickly and repeatedly, behind and in front of the wanderer. This causes older areas of the Greenrooms to become more deformed, distorted, and dislocated compared to other areas of the wonderland. Once a wall, floor, or ceiling is dislocated, more than 100 miles are created, expanding into other wonderlands. Once one encounters a hole on the walls, floor, or ceilings of the Greenrooms, they are advised to enter it; entering the holes will teleport one to the fourth and final wonderland.
The Gradient Shore
One of the only available photographs of the Gradient Shore.
The Gradient Shore is the fourth and final wonderland of Level 317. It appears as a darkened island, with prospering vegetation spread across the entire island. The island is encircled by a shore of glowing, neon sand. The Gradient Shore is a vast, seemingly unending ocean that appears as a slime; however, it contains the structure of water. The substance that composes the ocean of the Gradient Shore appears to be a gradient of blue, cyan, dodger blue, pink, violet, purple, and black. This gradient is separated into various diverse patterns. The sky on the Gradient Shore appears as a gradient of deep blue and purple. The air, the ocean, and the sky on the Gradient Shore cause one to gain a feeling of seclusion, calmness, and tranquility. The moon, noticeable in the sky with its lilac and white color, emanates purple and lilac rays of light, which cause happiness when exposed to any living organisms. A blurry, unreachable city-like collective hallucination may be sighted far away; despite being thought to be false, the light emanating from these false cities seems to be legitimate. Shrouding the main island of the Gradient Shore is an unending collocate of islands, which also appear as vanta-black islands, similarly to the main island; however, the outer islands are significantly smaller than the main island. The outer islands are situated on a radius of 50 miles (80,4672 kilometers.) away from the main island. The main features of the outer islands seem to be empty crates, coconut trees, berry bushes, and palm trees.
On the westernmost part of the main island is a dock with wooden bridges and various wooden boats. These boats vary in wood type, size, and integrity. On these boats are compartments filled with Almond Water and other essential resources for survival. As one navigates on the boats, the ocean will slowly and progressively become more dangerous. The ocean's waves will turn stronger and more impactful, mirages will appear, and heavy storms will become very common. Despite the seeming danger of the ocean, the water is breathable, and pressure will become less relevant as time passes. While navigating, each person will see something different based on how long they have been navigating; wanderers cannot see each other while navigating. As one navigates, the ocean appears to become more unstable, and parts of it seem to fade into other levels despite being unreachable. The color and properties of the ocean may change, and the wave's behavior is heavily changing, with smaller and enormous waves. A sign of one's official egress from Level 317 is the ocean becoming increasingly colder and more refreshing. Once a person leaves Level 317, the boat they were on is destroyed, decays, and sinks into the ocean as a ravine is opened below it, making the boat impossible to rescue.
The Forbidden Lands of Depression
The only known photograph of the Forbidden Lands.
The Forbidden Lands of Depression, also known as Forbidden Lands, is a hidden wonderland on this level. It can be accessed after dying on the Gradient Shore. The Forbidden Lands appear as an unending space with wooden ground. Metal, bar-like structures can be seen sticking to the ground. In this region, there is a toxic fog, which causes poisoning, breathing issues, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. The sky of the Forbidden Lands appears to be a concrete wall; however, this is yet to be confirmed. Unlike other wonderlands, the Forbidden Lands are very small, and on their boundaries, one can sight cliffs; if one falls off, they will be taken back to the Forbidden Lands; however, their perspective is darker. As time passes, one will experience an effect known as the "Forbidden Effect." The Forbidden Effect causes sadness, Alzheimer's, depression, and anxiety, which become stronger, more impactful, and more noticeable as time rushes.
Entities
The entities present within Level 317 are Foams, Facelings, and False Grass alongside a level-exclusive entities known as Vucuds and Construction Pieces. Vucuds are aggressive and territorial entities that inhabit the Rubber Plains. Vucuds appear as humanoid beings constructed of dust, sand, and stones with two neon yellow eyes. Vucuds enjoy staying on the very top of the hills of the Rubber Plains. Vucuds have the ability to spray dust and launch wind using their fists when threatened or generally attacking. Vucuds feed on rubber, vegetation, and human meat. Vucuds dislike humans and attack any wanderers and settlements. There is not much existing information regarding Vucuds, as they have developed methods to prevent wanderers from sighting or collecting information regarding them.
Construction Pieces, on the other hand, are unintelligent entities that inhabit the Woodlands; they appear as flying, giant pieces of wood with colorful poles stuck into them. The only task Construction Pieces execute in their lives is to form a group of instances. Construction Pieces will attempt anything possible to execute this task, resulting in destructive outcomes. Once a group of Construction Pieces is established, they come together and connect similarly to bricks to form the giant furniture of the Woodlands.
Colonies and Outposts
Due to the level's safety and absence of wonderlands with a myriad of entities, Level 317 is considered a very habitable level and a hot spot for human settlements. As the level itself has various settlements around it, only the main outposts will be mentioned.
The Shore People
The Shore People are the only existing outpost on the east of the main island of the Gradient Shore. They have a relatively small population of 2,009 people. The Shore People constructed cabins and shacks and built and planned villages. The outpost has a generally friendly population and will accept any new members. The Shore People have a democratic government with yearly elections. One of the main activities executed by the Shore People are fishing, chopping trees, and farming, and the majority consider it fun. They dismantle boats and docks in order to construct houses. The villages of the Shore People have campfires, shops, cabins, and relaxation chambers. The Shore People are a very free outpost, with a large range of civil rights.
Base "Rubber"
Base Rubber is one of the largest bases on the Rubber Plains, with a population of 5,403 people. It exists to destabilize the M.E.G.'s presence on the level. It is mainly used to collect rubber, dirt, and plants. It is also used to capture entities. Base Rubber cultivates farms of plants bought from other levels, causing the Rubber Plains to gain a larger range of plants. Base Rubber has developed public transport and shortcuts using the tunnels of the craters on the wonderland. Base Rubber serves as a transition space for the group's exports and imports. It is also used as a storage space for items. The residences on Base Rubber are situated primarily on the craters, with pieces of furniture from small pieces of the Woodlands. The crater homes are covered by collected rubber from the floor.
M.E.G. Base "Furniture"
Base Furniture is the largest outpost in the Woodlands, with a population of 2,789 people. It is used to collect wood and furniture from the wonderland. The base, despite being the largest, is exceedingly small, and it does not have much information regarding it and has few uses for it.
