Level ζ (Pronunciation: Zeta) is the 6th Hellenic level of the Backrooms, being one of the most dangerous of them due to a variety of mainly environmental factors.
Description:
Level ζ is a sprawling complex of metal catwalk-like bridges surrounded by tangled servers that defy typical architecture and elevation, having no established ground floor or ceiling. Allowing for easy access between different areas are stairways and balconies of varying length and size.
Darkness is prevalent throughout Level ζ, only being illuminated by the server lights which glow a variety of colors from deep reds to bright greens and blues. A faint smell of metal, blood, and burning plastic shrouds the area, as well as smoke that emits from the overheating machinery. The atmosphere is warm and humid, with a temperature that typically lies at 92°F (~33°C).
Various environmental dangers make traversing Level ζ difficult. Bridges can be unsteady and prone to collapsing, along with exposed wiring and server parts that can easily catch fire. Whatever you do, it is advised not to interact with any servers as they can easily cause severe burns or electrocution if not handled properly. Any loose clothing or hair should also be met with caution. Adding on to this danger, many people experience rapid declines in mental health, which is typically caused by a variety of factors, including the immense darkness of some rooms, as well as the overstimulating factors of the environment such as the heat, humidity, and smell.
Occasionally, one may come across small server rooms well-lit by fluorescent lights. These rooms are messy and obscured by large amounts of wires and old computer parts. One wrong step in one of these rooms can lead to getting yourself electrocuted by exposed wiring, or worse, the entire room set on fire. Some areas in the complex are completely made out of wires, which can easily be fallen through if one is not careful.
There have been three (3) confirmed reports of wanderers entering Level ζ, most of them stumbling here by accident. Below is each report detailing the level:
Incident Report-1 / Released on 2/25/2026:
An anonymous wanderer had reported entering Level ζ, apparently finding themselves here after wandering to the edge of Level ε's dungeon. Below is a transcription of the interview:
<Begin Log>
M.E.G. Operative: Hello there. Can you please tell us your name for the interview?
Wanderer: My name is █████ ███████████.
M.E.G. Operative: Please state your reasoning for this report document.
Wanderer: Well, I wanted to detail my findings on what I believe to be Level Zeta.
M.E.G. Operative: And why do you believe this is Level Zeta?
Wanderer: <Clears throat> So, let me get started. I was exploring Level Epsilon, until I found myself in the dungeon. I traveled for what felt like miles, and eventually found myself at the foot of a metal door. It had the Zeta symbol molded onto the front of the door, leading me to believe that where I found myself is Level Zeta.
M.E.G. Operative: Please describe what you saw following entry of the door.
Wanderer: I found myself in a huge labyrinth of metal bridges and glowing computer parts. There was no floor, just endless data centers and the smell of metal and smoke.
M.E.G. Operative: I see… have you considered adding an entry to the database?
Wanderer: I already have, yes. It is currently awaiting approval.
M.E.G. Operative: Thank you for your time, have a great day, █████.
<End Log>
Conclusion: The anonymous wanderer, after finding a door in Level ε, had entered Level ζ. Detailing their findings as well as sending an image to the database, they have since decided to reside on Level κ near the M.E.G. outpost located there.
Incident Report-2 / Released on 3/2/2026:
This incident report details the discovery of anomalous happenings related to electronic devices within Level ζ.
For more information, an anonymous woman had claimed to have entered Level ζ possessing a cellular device presumably released in early 2025. She mentioned many strange happenings, including but not limited to:
- Smoke pouring out of the charging ports.
- Strange messages and alerts appearing on the screen, mostly depicting random strings of letters and numbers.
- The phone screen flashing different colors.
- Overheating causing overall damage to the phone's hardware.
- Strings of electricity connecting the servers of Level ζ to the cellular device, followed by even more strange happenings such as the ones mentioned previously.
With all this in mind, it can definitely be said that electronic devices tend to act strangely on Level ζ. Authorities advise not to bring any of these electronic devices to the level, as they all have contained various anomalous properties upon entering. Below is a list of each electronic device that have been 100% confirmed to act strangely on Level ζ:
- Samsung Galaxy S25/S26
- Apple iPhone 17e
- Anker AeroFit 2 Pro
- Apple iPhone Fold
It should be noted that all of these devices have been released very recently as of 3/2/2026. Older devices do not seem to yield these same results, the reason for this being currently unknown.
Incident Report-3 / Released on 3/11/2026:
It has been recently discovered that a large portion of Level ζ had caught fire. The cause of this fire is not yet known, and the amount of casualties remains undisclosed. Thankfully, the fire did not spread further than a couple dozen miles, due to the emergency spray system being activated.
Ever since this incident, a new area has been formed; now named the "Darkness Sector". It is a large biome of burnt server rooms that are highly dangerous, spanning over a few dozen miles. The cause of this danger is due to the area being entirely pitch black, comparably to Level 6, with the same negative effects on sanity.
Bases, Outposts, and Communities:
Due to the nature of this level, there are no bases, outposts, or communities that reside here.
Entrances and Exits:
Entrances:
- The most common entrance to Level ζ takes the appearance of a metallic door located within Level ε's dungeon.
- It is also said that there is another entrance at one of Level ε's edges.
- This door can also manifest itself on Level 6, Level 15, Level 109, and Level 70.
Exits:
- Finding a door can lead to either Level η or Level κ.
- Tripping on a wire and into the void without hitting a single object is rumored to transport travelers to Level 6, though this is not advised.
