Object 50, commonly known as Flashspheres, are checker-patterned, reflective spherical objects that look nearly identical to traditional disco balls. They are usually found hanging on room ceilings, although they have been reported to be suspended in different places such as other ceiling fixtures, walls, and underneath tables. Regardless of the environment, Flashspheres are only ever suspended in places with a stable structure, never located in places at risk of structural collapse.

Various materials are used to suspend Flashspheres such as thread, metal chains, vines, rope, and even tape. They seem to be vital to how a Flashsphere operates, as severing the suspension cord will disable it. Regardless of the material, all appear to seamlessly sink into the surface they are attached to as well as the Flashsphere itself, as opposed to being hooked to a fixture of any kind. The inside of a Flashsphere is completely hollow, the material on the inside resembling a smooth, concrete-like material.

Measurements

"A diameter of anywhere between 1-2 meters."

Flashspheres have been measured to have a diameter of anywhere between 1-2 meters, although a small number of eyewitness accounts have described them as being either significantly smaller or larger than current recorded measurements. Their weight, however, remains consistent at 150lb, regardless of size. It is theorized that although volume can vary between Flashspheres, their density will change to fit 150lb of mass. The reflective squares on the sphere themselves seem to act as a normal reflective surface, though blurry.

Properties

Durability

"Can be put through remarkable amounts of damage and still retain their shape."

Flashspheres are unusually durable. They can be put through remarkable amounts of damage and still retain their shape, requiring either explosives or significant blunt force to damage it. This property does not extend to the reflective squares covering the sphere as they are able to be cracked and scratched relatively easily. It is not yet known why this is, but it is hypothesized that the concrete-like material that gives the sphere its shape is a separate material entirely, one capable of withstanding considerably more damage. Unfortunately, due to the limited number of tools available, this remains only a theory.

Light Amplification

“The light in a room will be so intense that it turns pure white.”

The most significant property of Flashspheres is their light amplification. When someone enters a room containing a Flashsphere, it will start to slowly spin, getting exponentially faster as time goes on. While a Flashsphere spins, the room that it is in will start to grow brighter with no discernable origin. The light increase appears to be tied to a Flashsphere's rotation speed. Once reaching a certain speed, the light in a room will be so intense that it turns pure white, permanently blinding anything within the room housing the Flashsphere. This is commonly referred to as the "White Point" amongst inhabitants of the Backrooms, and will persist until the room is either vacated, or the person inside it dies.

It is theorized that the brightness in a room containing a Flashsphere at the white point exceeds that of a nuclear blast, which is capable of causing permanent blindness. The White Point occurs approximately seven seconds after someone enters a room containing a Flashsphere. Currently, there are no known ways to prevent being blinded during the White Point, as the light appears to penetrate anything inside the room. Interestingly enough, any of the light that leaks outside of the level, whilst quite bright and capable of temporarily blinding someone, does not inflict the permanent blindess that it does inside the room. What constitutes a "room" in relation to this object appears to be any indoor area with at least a single entrance and the majority of the walls fully intact.

Active Flashspheres also appear to be extremely resistant to any attempt to hamper their movement. Wanderers that have attempted to stop one from spinning have reported third-degree burns where they made physical contact with it. Due to their nature, attempts to restrain one using large vices and other apparatuses are currently impossible.

Uses

Due to the immobile state of the object, uses for them are scarce. Ones that are severed have been proposed as ammunition in weapons due to their unusual durability, but due to their size and weight, those ideas remain hypothetical.
Multiple groups inside the Backrooms have been seen using rooms with Flashspheres inside them as traps, luring someone inside the room and then blocking the exits, waiting for whoever is inside to be blinded.

Obtaining

Flashspheres are most commonly found on levels that have low amounts of ambient light. It is worth noting that though Flashspheres can be found on levels where light does not function normally, they are not exempt from any light-altering phenomenon. If attempting to sever one, it is advised to use tools such as bolt cutters, due to them being effective at cutting differing materials with relative ease. Ranged weapons such as slings and bows can also be utilized, but have proven fairly inefficient. Regardless, it is advised to not attempt to disable a Flashsphere due to the inherent risks attached with doing so.
